The righteous will live by faith

“For in the gospel the righteousness of God is revealed--a righteousness that is by faith from first to last, just as it is written: "The righteous will live by faith.“ ~Romans 1:17

I love this verse because it is all about Jesus Christ. It has been interpreted to center around me and what I can do but thankfully, that can’t be right, for I’d most assuredly fail.

One clue is “from first to last” - Who is the First and the Last? Who is the Alpha and the Omega? Who is the Beginning and the End? Jesus Christ, all the way! [Rev 1:8; 21:6; 22:13; Isaiah 41:4; 44:6; 48:12]. So we can read that to say, “The righteousness of God is revealed, the righteousness that is Jesus Christ.

This verse goes on to quote Habukkuk 2:4, which is a prophecy about the Messiah, Jesus Christ. “The Righteous One will live by his faithfulness.”

We live because of the faithfulness of Jesus Christ! Not our faith - HIS faithfulness to His Father. Philippians 2:8 “He humbled himself, becoming obedient unto death, even to the death of the cross.” and Luke 22:42 saying, "Father, if You will, remove this cup [the cross] from Me--nevertheless not My will, but Yours, be done."

Oh, thank you, Jesus for what You have done. Thank you for Your faithfulness for You are the one and only thing that we can count on. You will never leave us or let us down. Increase our faith so that we never doubt You.
